Senior Pastor

Rev. Scott Klimke

After over twenty years in Pennsylvania, my wife Julia and I were drawn to Arizona as she approached retirement. My ministry focuses on meaningful worship, compassionate care, and strong relationships. With a military and fundraising background, I value teamwork and believe the church thrives as a community. I’m honored to serve at American Lutheran Church alongside a dedicated team and look forward to growing in faith together.

“The church isn’t the church when it allows people to fall through the cracks. I don’t want anyone to fall through the cracks.”
– Pastor Scott

Our Values at American Lutheran Church

Traditional

Traditional – Rooted in Faith, Rich in Worship

Our worship is steeped in time-honored traditions, offering a sacred space where faith feels familiar and meaningful. With beautiful liturgy, reverent sacraments, and a deep commitment to Scripture, we honor the past while embracing the present.

Joyful

Joyful – Worship That Lifts the Spirit

Music is the heartbeat of our worship, featuring the best organ in the West Valley and a 50+ voice choir that fills our sanctuary with energy and praise. Every service is a celebration of faith, filled with warm fellowship, uplifting hymns, and a spirit of joy that carries into everyday life.

Relevant

Relevant – Faith That Speaks to Everyday Life

Our sermons don’t just inspire – they connect to real life, helping you answer the question, “So what can I do about it?” We walk alongside one another in faith, offering ministries like Stephen Ministry, food insecurity support, and global outreach efforts to put love into action.

Grow in Faith with Bible Study

Studying God’s Word together strengthens our faith and deepens our understanding. We offer three engaging Bible study groups to help you connect, learn, and grow

1. Pastor’s Bible Study – Wednesdays, 10:30 AM (Year-Round)
Join Pastor Scott for a weekly in-depth study of Scripture. Expect engaging discussions and opportunities to ask questions.

2. Women’s Morning Bible Study – Fridays, 10:00 AM
This seasonal study welcomes women for interactive discussions on biblical themes.

3. Get Involved at ALC
We offer a variety of groups, events, and ministry opportunities throughout the year.
Check our weekly events and upcoming activities on the Calendar page.

Questions About Worship

Depending on the time of the year, our regular schedule during the months of November – April includes three worship opportunities: Saturday at 4 PM and Sunday at 8:30 AM and 10:30 AM. Because Sun City is made up of many snow-birds, during the months of May – October, we have two worship opportunities: Saturday at 4 PM and Sunday at 9:30 AM. Each worship service normally lasts between an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes.

From anywhere in the parking area, look for the bell tower; the doors to the sanctuary are located directly underneath it. As you enter the narthex, or gathering space, of the sanctuary, we invite you to stop by the “Welcome Center,” where information is available about the church. As a special way to thank you for choosing to worship with us, we would like very much to give you a special gift. If you like, one of our friendly greeters or ushers will help you find a seat.

We follow what is in the Evangelical Lutheran Worship (ELW) book of worship. This type of worship has been passed down through the ages and is similar to many Lutheran, other Protestant churches, and even Catholic worship services.

Absolutely! Regardless of age, everyone is invited and encouraged to participate in worship. If your child becomes restless, there is no need to be embarrassed! We understand it can be difficult for a child to sit for an hour. If this happens, we will do our best to accommodate you and your family. If you would like, we have quiet activities for them to do at their seats. If that’s not enough, you are free to take them into the narthex, outside, or the fellowship hall to calm them down.

Many people aren’t sure what to wear when they visit ALC. We want you to be comfortable when you visit. When you are at one of our services, you’ll see a range of styles from jeans to suits. Feel free to be casual or wear your “Sunday best.”

Holy Communion is a sacrament, or a visible sign of God’s invisible grace. It is not a reward for the perfect; rather food for the hungry. Through Holy Communion we are nourished, empowered, and sent out to share God’s love. We believe the Holy Communion table is not ALC’s table or a Lutheran table. We believe it is Christ’s table, so all are invited.

We love questions. Feel free to ask the pastors before or after the service. The pastors will do their best to direct you through worship so that you don’t feel lost. If you have a question during the service, you are free to ask someone seated around you. If they don’t know, keep asking around until you find someone who does know the answer!
